 Las excretas de los vacunos al ser expuestas al ambiente se fermentan, produciendo metano, dióxido de carbono y otros gases de efecto invernadero. El objetivo de este estudio fue utilizar biodigestores y aprovechar las excretas, para la producción controlada de metano y usarla como fuente de energía. La proporción de la mezcla inicial fue 1:5 (553.8 Kg. estiércol fresco + 16.614 m3 de agua), sellándose herméticamente. El biogás se generó en mayor cantidad a los 20 días, tiempo en el cual la carga microbiana se ha adaptado y degrada las excretas. Al final del proceso, se obtuvo el biol del biodigestor tubular conteniendo mayor cantidad de potasio, 867.8 mg/l y de 242.5 mg/l de magnesio; el biol del biodigestor Rotoplas contenía 299.8 mg/l de sulfato. El biosol del biodigestor Rotoplas contenía 400 mg/l de Calcio; estas cantidades son favorables para la agricultura. Ambos biodigestores funcionaron de manera óptima a  22.1°C y 1.25 atm. de presión, produciéndose 4.96Kg/día de metano. El uso de biodigestores es una buena alternativa para utilizar el estiércol de vacuno evitando impactos negativos al ambiente y a la sociedad.
